Lent with WTC: From Seed to Tree (the sprout)
Mar 16, 2025Reflection Point: “Life does not accommodate you, it shatters you. Every seed destroys its container, or else there would be no fruition.” —Florida Scott-Maxwell
Scripture: "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair." (2 Corinthians 4:8)
Wisdom from a Mystic:
“I said: what about my eyes?
He said: Keep them on the road.
I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.
I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it.
I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
—Rumi
Life's challenges often stretch us to the breaking point. We may feel that we have shattered but the cracks are openings that allow the Divine Light to shine within and through us.
Return to the first week. Sit with the seed that you have covered in dirt. How has your seed cracked open? What was the strength, the beauty, of God that sprouted from the breaking?
Prayer: Create a prayer to the Sacred about your sprout. Name what the sprout that has emerged from the shattering. Your prayer can be words, an image, or body movement...you decide.
Fasting: What will you release or abstain from to fully nourish your sprout? If unsure, ask yourself what might be getting in the way of you fully nourishing the sprout as it grows toward the Light.
Giving: What can you offer as an expression of your growth? It can be an act of kindness, a self-care practice, or a donation of your time, talent, and resources. May your gift be an expression of your desire to grow into your spiritual seedling.
